McCain or Obama? It Makes No Difference

When Mr. Obama was elected President of the United States of America I was deeply grieved. I'm against redistributing wealth, I'm against socialized health care, I'm against higher taxes, as well as abortion, etc...I was hoping John McCain would be able to pull out a victory and stun half of our citizens along with the world. However, being a conservative as well as a fundamental Christian I had to remind myself that an Obama administration or a McCain administration makes absolutely no difference to my duties as a follower of Jesus Christ.

While our near future President I'm sure will continue to let us know that there is still "change we can believe in", I'm not counting on him to bring it about. John McCain vowed to bring real change to Washington as well, and I'm sure he would have tried his hardest and done less than he promised. Fellow Christians, let us not forget that the real "change" comes from God (and I don't mean politically). People won't change their mind on abortion because of any government mandate, they will change it when they get a Bible conviction about it. People won't change their mind on same sex marriage because the voters of California passed Prop. 8, they will change it when they accept the truth of God's word. The moral and political playing field will not improve unless we do our duties as Christians and introduce our friends and neighbors to the One Who can bring real lasting change into their life. Jesus Christ. Our duty is to "preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15) regardless of who is leading politically.

While our near future Presidnet I'm sure will continue to let us know that there is still "hope", I'm not counting on him to give it to me. I wouldn't have counted on McCain to give me any hope either. Why? Becuase my hope is not in a man, the White House, or Washinton, but it is in our Lord. Psalm 34:8 says "O taste and see that the LORD is good, blessed is the man that trusteth in him." America has suffered some heavy setbacks in recent months and I know there are a lot of people who are not sure about their future. If they will trust in the Lord, we can assure them from this verse that blessings await. If our trust and hope is in the Lord, personal blessings will abound irrespective of who is in office.

The Christian is to be focused on the Lord primarily and allow everything else in their life to be secondary. Colossians 1:18 teaches us that in all things Jesus is to have the preeminence? What does that equate to? That means putting Him first. That equates to bringing change to people through Jesus Christ and allowing the Lord to be our real hope. That has always been the job of the Christian. It was their job when Washington was President, when Lincoln was in office, when Clinton was Commander in Chief, and even now when Obama is waiting to be sworn in. Let us, as Christian conservatives not get bogged down in the muck and mire of politics. Yes, we should be concerned and cast our vote for conservative principles (which are Bible principles) but the fact of the matter is this. Obama or McCain? It really doesn't matter.
